I tried getting into La Roux a while back. You'd think I'd love them right? Dancey, fun, electro-pop with a sultry singer. But I just couldn't get into them. It was just too sugary and too synch-poppy for me. It just didn't work for me.
But now, as if by magic, I can't get this song out of my head. I wake up singing it. I go to bed singing it. I am singing it all day.
All this 'magic' is cause of Major Lazer's new mixtape Lazer Proof. Its an amazing mix of pop, dancehall, electro, dub, hip-hop & reggae.
I would expect nothing less from Major Lazer. They're no strangers at working with interesting female pop stars. I mean come on, look what Diplo & Switch did with the M.I.A. & Santigold records and mixtapes. Why not work that magic on La Roux?
They took this sugary synth pop song, flipped it and turned it into a chilled out dubby crooner that's just dripping with sexiness. The whole mixtape is like this. I can't get enough of it, but especially this song.
