i was never a huge echo & the bunnymen fan. i def liked a couple songs here and there but i was never all that into them. i was more a cure, new order, depeche mode kinda guy. but i've been watching a lot of 120 minutes lately (on vh1 classic. can you believe that?). and after seeing some of their live performance videos, i was kinda surprised i was never a fan. they seemed so fun and energetic live. and the crowd always seemed pretty into it in those videos. so i was kinda siked to see them last night at the fox theater.

the first half consisted of them playing their ocean rain album. they sounded great. they were accompanied by an orchestra. the strings were a great touch and added to the lush sound of the album. but that album was never one of my favorites. so not only did the first half not have any of my fav songs, it was just too mellow.

i coulda dealt with the mellowness if ian and crew were a even just a little bit more energetic on stage. but they mostly stood around singing and playing their instruments. luckily the second set's music wasn't so mellow. it was just the bunnymen (no orchestra this time) rocking to some of their older songs. bring on the dancing horses was fantastic. as was the cutter & lips like sugar. i was really hoping for do it clean as that's the energetic live video that brought me here in the first place. but no dice.

while i wasn't all that impressed with the show, a lot of the crowd were totally into it and dancing for most of the show. so i guess most of the fans really enjoyed the show.
