no. i'm not writing about new york cause the yankees won the series. i'm not a yankee fan. (or a baseball fan for that matter.) but i do love new york. and it's been on my mind a lot lately. mostly because of jay-z's latest single empire state of mind.
the song is ridiculously awesome. it took me a while to warm up to it as i was kinda crushing on his cover/remix of forever young. but now i can't get enough of empire. it's gettin constant play on my iphone. jay just kills it as usual. his word play is unmatched. and alicia keys on the chorus...mmm that just brings it all home. just amazing.
in new york!
concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
there's nothing you can’t do,
now you're in new york!
i have lots of fond memories of new york. but my memory of the big apple is nothing compared to stephen wiltshire's. he is an autistic artist who is drawing an 18ft skyline of all 5 new york boroughs. from memory. it boggles my mind. i can't remember to move my car to avoid a parking ticket, but stephen can draw every building in new york with details and to scale all from memory.
now you're in new york!
these streets will make you feel brand new,
the lights will inspire you,
let's hear it for new york, new york!
sorry philly.
