I wasn't all that excited for Massive Attack cause man, after travelling all week and the Nas/Damian Marley show the night before, I was exhausted. I really wanted to see them, but my legs were killing me and I just didnt know if I could handle another general admin show.
Boy was I wrong. We got there a lil late and missed most of Martina's set. But what I saw, I loved. She was all dressed up in a red dress with a red mask. And she was playing an electric guitar over a beat machine. I was enthralled. MNDR was up next. And she was pretty great too. Reminded me a lot of Cyndi Lauper crossed with Santagold. Lots of energetic electro pop funkiness.
My knees were throbbing by the time Massive Attack came on. But they sounded so good, I didn't care. Their sound is so clean and crisp it's unreal. From the shredding guitar riffs to the bombastic beats to the guttering bass that'll make you think your fillings are falling out, they just sounded amazing. And throw in Martina's angelic voice in the mix (Yay she came back out!) and it's heavenly. Daddy G & Horace Andy were on hand to lend their vocal talents to their respective songs too. They flowed from new songs to their much loved classics like 'Karmacoma', 'Teardrop', 'Protection', 'Angel', 'Inertia Creeps' and more.
I'm really glad I went to the show and didn't wuss out cause it was pretty much amazing.
