to say i was a lil excited about the xx show at the fox woulda been a huge understatement. i've been looking forward to seeing them since i first feel in love with their album. we got there a lil late and i was practically sprinting to the fox after we parked. (well as close to sprinting as i get.) we got there just before they went on and my heart skipped a beat as they started into 'intro'. and i instantly just feel into their groove.

i've been trying to figure out what it is about xx i love so much. but i can't quite figure it out. it def has to do with their minimalist approach to music and their sparse song arrangements. their beats and melodies are great. and i absolutely adore the back and forth of the male/female vocals. whatever it is, it just seeps into my soul. and these songs have become a big part of my soundtrack.

but their live show... was just lacking. i couldn't quite place my finger on it just didn't live up to my expectations. the sound at the fox was pretty crappy this night so that may have been a major factor. everything just sounded a bit flat. and the band didn't seem all that excited to be there. but i guess touring non stop for a year plus will do that to a young band.

they also only played for like 30 minutes. i know they were the opener but 30 minutes? the crowd was pretty fired up and cheered non stop for a good 5 mins but to no avail. i was hoping they'd come back out and play 'heart skipped a beat' but we weren't that lucky.

overall i was a bit disappointed in their set, but i'm still pretty excited to be seeing them headline a show next month in san francisco. maybe our second date will be better.
